Matte Lip Creams are quite popular nowadays. Amidst the cosmetic companies coming up with their own matte lip cream line and with such an amazing shade collection, these lip creams are becoming hard to resist. I first learned about them when Shen blogged about NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I was very impressed on how they looked on her lips- simply gorgeous. Since then, I've been lemming to own a matte lip cream. I found a seller on Facebook but the transaction didn't push through. I really wanted to try one but my frugal self kept me from buying any matte lip cream. If you think about it, they can cost a lot especially if you want to try a number of shades. I know, for some, they think these lip creams are cheap because they only cost around Php 300+ compare to buying a lipstick from Revlon and the like which could cost Php 900+ a piece. However, I tried to resist buying makeup that I knew I'd probably not finish at all.
Then I saw a super cheap matte lip cream called EXCEL PARIS which is being sold online for Php 100. It made me think if I wanted to buy it, but then again I thought of looking for an alternative instead.
The good news is, yes, there is an alternative to Matte Lip Creams!
You can achieve the same result without shelling out money and the procedure is as easy as 1-2-3. Just do the following steps:
1. Apply your favorite lipstick
2. Apply translucent powder on your lips. (I used Nichido Final Powder in Natural)
3. Smack your lips and you're ready to go. ^___^
That's how easy it is.
For the purpose of this post, I used Sophie Martin lipstick in Russian Red and the result was amazing. I initially tried this procedure using Ever Bilena Deluxe lipstick but the result was not as good as Sophie Martin's. I also tried Revlon, NYX and Ever Bilena Pro Shimmer Lipstick to see if the result would be good as well. Unfortunately, I still did not get the same satisfaction that I got from Sophie Martin. I guess this mattifying trick works best on lipsticks that have good consistency and texture. Otherwise, the lip product will break apart intensifying the lines on your lips. Of course, we don't want that.
Just to reiterate, you can still use any lipstick since it will really turn matte albeit the quality may be compromised. So for best results, use a lipstick that covers the lips pretty well. Remember that you'll be applying powder so if the lip product is not intact, the powder will only emphasize such flaw.
Anyway, here are some photos to show you the result.

Close Up:
You might want to try this first before buying a matte lip cream. You can grab any lipstick shade that you have and turn it matte after application.
There is no need to buy a particular matte lip cream shade in order to achieve matte lips. At the same time, this is a great alternative to those who want to save money. YEY!
