How to: Mattify your Lipstick

Matte Lip Creams are quite popular nowadays. Amidst the cosmetic companies coming up with their own matte lip cream line and with such an amazing shade collection, these lip creams are becoming hard to resist. I first learned about them when Shen blogged about NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I was very impressed on how they looked on her lips- simply gorgeous. Since then, I've been lemming to own a matte lip cream. I found a seller on Facebook but the transaction didn't push through. I really wanted to try one but my frugal self kept me from buying any matte lip cream. If you think about it, they can cost a lot especially if you want to try a number of shades. I know, for some, they think these lip creams are cheap because they only cost around Php 300+ compare to buying a lipstick from Revlon and the like which could cost Php 900+ a piece. However, I tried to resist buying makeup that I knew I'd probably not finish at all.

Then I saw a super cheap matte lip cream called EXCEL PARIS which is being sold online for Php 100. It made me think if I wanted to buy it, but then again I thought of looking for an alternative instead.

The good news is, yes, there is an alternative to Matte Lip Creams!

You can achieve the same result without shelling out money and the procedure is as easy as 1-2-3. Just do the following steps:

1. Apply your favorite lipstick
2. Apply translucent powder on your lips. (I used Nichido Final Powder in Natural)
3. Smack your lips and you're ready to go. ^___^

That's how easy it is.

For the purpose of this post, I used Sophie Martin lipstick in Russian Red and the result was amazing. I initially tried this procedure using Ever Bilena Deluxe lipstick but the result was not as good as Sophie Martin's. I also tried Revlon, NYX and Ever Bilena Pro Shimmer Lipstick to see if the result would be good as well. Unfortunately, I still did not get the same satisfaction that I got from Sophie Martin. I guess this mattifying trick works best on lipsticks that have good consistency and texture. Otherwise, the lip product will break apart intensifying the lines on your lips. Of course, we don't want that.

Just to reiterate, you can still use any lipstick since it will really turn matte albeit the quality may be compromised. So for best results, use a lipstick that covers the lips pretty well. Remember that you'll be applying powder so if the lip product is not intact, the powder will only emphasize such flaw.

Anyway, here are some photos to show you the result.

Messy hair... patulog na kasi ako niyan. HAHA!

Close Up:

You might want to try this first before buying a matte lip cream. You can grab any lipstick shade that you have and turn it matte after application.

There is no need to buy a particular matte lip cream shade in order to achieve matte lips. At the same time, this is a great alternative to those who want to save money. YEY!

Have a great Monday! ^___^

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Product Review: Sophie Martin Lipstick in Caramel Sugar and Cotton Peach

Sophie Martin in Nudes and Peaches
Hello, girls! I know this is long overdue but, as they say, better late than never. :) I finally had the time to swatch the remaining two lipsticks I haven't reviewed for Sophie Martin. Phew!

From left to right (without Flash): Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

From left to right (with Flash): Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

From top to bottom: Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

Here are the swatches for Sophie Martin Lipstick in Caramel Sugar:

Kemper lang ang smile ko! Wahahaha!

What I like:
-the packaging is really cute
-they all smell delicious
-very creamy and pigmented (it won't look bad even on dry lips
-very affordable (retails for Php 79 but I bought them for Php 70)

What I don't like:
-name of the shade on the label is too small (but not a major major problem. haha!)

What I love about these are the consistency and pigmentation of each lipstick. All the lipsticks are creamy and pigmented so your expectations are pretty much the same. Furthermore, the color pay off is exquisite- something you wouldn't expect on a very cheap makeup.

There's nothing I can really complain about Sophie Martin Lipsticks because their quality caught me by surprise considering the price I paid for each item. The packaging is pretty decent and sturdy especially if you store them well. Though I would appreciate it if they label the names of each lipstick in a different manner. I find it difficult to get the shades that I like without reading the entire label because the name of the shade doesn't stand out from the rest of the description. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Lovin' Red Lips: Sophie Martin's Russian Red

ME WEARING RED LIPSTICK????

I remember the times I insisted that red lipstick doesn't look good on me. I regret the day I said that.

Sophie Martin Lipstick in Russian Red

And yep, I ate my words and shamelessly pouted for loving RED LIPS.

The Pout

Excuse me while I smile with my yellowish teeth. HAHA!

And because red emphasizes more how yellow my teeth are (probably because of drinking too much coffee), I feel obliged to buy Crest White Strips. Lovely Char of Yellow Yum made a review about it and I wanna try it too!

Dolled up while wearing pambahay.... OP KORS

Oops... hair on my face. hihihi

That's all for now.

Product Review: Sophie Martin Lipstick in Mango Peach

Sophie Martin Lipsticks in Nudes and Peaches

From left to right (without Flash): Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

From left to right (with Flash): Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

I was really happy when I made my first ever purchase from Sophie Martin. The lipsticks were pretty cheap yet the quality of the products were not compromised. All of their lipsticks are consistently creamy and have good color pay off. And if you've been reading my previous posts about their brand, there's really nothing that  I dislike about these lipsticks. And, because I love their lipsticks, I'm gonna make separate reviews for the remaining items I bought.

Nudes and Peaches Swatches:

From top to bottom: Velvet Nude, Caramel Sugar, Mango Peach, Cotton Peach

Note: I won't give a detailed review about today's Sophie Martin Lipstick because I've posted a good number of reviews about the product line. If you want to read them, I've posted the links below. So check them out.

Lip Swatches:

I never really thought I'm going to love peach-y lip shades. This shade gave me a very natural peach shade that made my lips look healthier. Overall, I love the creamy consistency of this product and the lipstick has a very decent smell.

SOPHIE MARTIN LIPSTICK in VELVET NUDE

Velvet Nude

By the way, you might be wondering why I put fingertip swatches for my lipsticks' reviews. That is because GOSSMAKEUPARTIST shared in youtube that this is the best way to test your lipsticks. Using the back of your hand is not as accurate as using fingertips cause the former has a different texture on your lips while the latter has the closest. ^__^

Velvet Nude

ON MY LIPS:

Over all, I love this shade of nude. It's not pale on my lips and it compliments my warm skin tone. The lipstick glides smoothly on my lips and it has a decent smell.
